Cabin Kit Tutorial

Quick and Easy

As a Do-It-Yourselfer, you'll enjoy the basic precept of a Sleeper Cabin.  Everything is pre-measured and pre-cut.  All you have to do is start to put it together using some very common hand tools and power tools.

Depending on the kit ordered, you may have to assemble the floor package first.  With you and a friend, this should take no more than a couple of hours depending on your stem wall/foundation support.

Once your floor is framed, or slab poured, assembly of the cabin itself is a snap.  Conceptually, it is very similar to building a house out of a deck of cards - like you did when you were a kid.

Following the included instructions [See Sample], you will start with a corner panel and work your way around the cabin setting up the interior framed walls about three-quarters of the way through.  Once completed, you set the main ridge beam and roof panels.  At that point, you're almost 100% dried-in.  All you need are windows and doors.

Learn More About Door & Windows Sizes

As a Do-It-Yourselfer, you already know the incredible deals you can get from certain big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes.  It is usually cheaper for you to get your windows, doors, siding, etc. from them that from us.  As such, we have designed our cabins with the rough openings to fit the regular brands of door and windows you'll find at your discount builder supply stores.  For ease of installation, we recommend you purchase pre-hung doors where ever you decide to purchase.

Once you've installed your windows and exterior door, you will need to put your roof underlayment on to help prevent leaks in the event of rain or snow.  Once you've done that, you are completely dried-in and you can start work on the rest of the project.  Total time to set up the cabin should be about two full days of work for two guys.  Finishing the cabin [e.g., drywall, flooring, etc.] can be done later and at your convenience.  After all, getting the cabin shell set up is the key to completing the project.
